12 Years In And Taquiza Tacos Still Knows How To Throw A Party

What started on the first floor of the Eva Hotel with Steve Santana flipping masa has turned into something bigger than Taquiza. It’s a full blown community moment. And this weekend, that energy was packed wall to wall. Chefs showed up. Friends showed up. Families showed up. And yeah… the lines showed up too.

Rensel ‘Ice‘ Cabrera was helming the bar slinging some of Sylverter’s favorite cocktails. Jimmy Lebron teamed up with Everglades Oysters and basically hijacked the crowd with a Michelada Mignonette situation that had people circling back for seconds. El Bagel came in hot with a BEC “Everything” tostada dripping in Oaxacan cheese sauce that was just perfect. Michael Schwartz and Roel Alcudia went bright and punchy with a Royal Red Shrimp aguachile kissed with coconut.

Meanwhile over at Sunny’s, Aaron Brooks was firing off beef tartare tostadas with salsa pipian like it was nothing. And then Eduardo… the Wolf of Tacos himself… casually dropped pork gaonera tacos with pickled onions.  Twelve years later, Taquiza Taco’s guac with hand torn totopos still hits like it always has. Arguably the best in Miami.

We didn’t try everything. Not even close. But the most memorable bite of the day wasn’t on the menu. It was watching nine chefs, their crews, their kids, their longtime regulars all in one place. Newborns in arms. Teenagers running around. Old friends hugging like no time passed. That kind of thing doesn’t happen overnight. That’s 12 years of showing up. And it tastes better than anything else on the table.
