There’s something happening just off SW 37th Ave, and it smells like sizzling chorizo, fresh tortillas, and a little bit of mezcal in the air. Meet Casa MX, a Mexican spot that quietly opened three months ago and already feels like it’s been part of the neighborhood forever. Warm. Welcoming.
Owner Mario Bernal knows his way around a dining room. With a résumé that runs through The Setai, Rosa Mexicano, Barcelona Wine Bar, and a decade with the José Andrés Group, this isn’t his first charreada.
“The name is intentional,” Bernal says. The goal is simple. You walk in, and it feels like home.

And honestly, it does. Think deep greens, earthy tones, soft lighting, and textures that make you want to settle in instead of scroll your phone. Iron chandeliers glow over the bar, rattan lights soften the dining room, and artwork celebrating women surround the space. We stopped by for brunch, and let’s just say… Start light if you must, but you’ll quickly spiral into ordering everything anyway.

The Chilaquiles come stacked with house chips, salsa verde, eggs, crema, cotija, and herbs. They’re already a win before you even consider adding chicken tinga or carnitas. Then there are the Huevos Divorciados, easily one of the prettiest plates on the table. Red salsa, green salsa, fried eggs, avocado, beans. Classic brunch players show up too. Huevos Rancheros, Breakfast Burritos, and Torta De Milanesa are your other options.

If you skip the shareables, you’re doing Casa MX wrong. The Queso Fundido arrives bubbling and ready for its close up. Oaxaca cheese, green chorizo, rajas. It’s the kind of dish that guarantees at least one slow motion cheese pull video. The Duck Tinga Flautas bring color and crunch, layered with crema, cotija, salsa negra, and salsa verde. Mexican colors in sauces for a bright, bold dish, and gone in seconds.

The Ceviche De Atún Sinaloa throws in a curveball with Maggi and pecans, adding depth and crunch you didn’t see coming. The Aguachile De Camarón leans spicy and citrusy, while the Camarones Al Ajo Negro bring a sweet, umami-heavy glaze that sticks with you. And yes, there’s Octopus. Grilled, tender, paired with creamy potatoes, black garlic aioli, and perfect acidity.

Let’s be clear. You are ordering tacos. Carnitas with confit pork shoulder. Duck Tinga. Fresh tortillas made in-house and two per order, which is either perfect for sharing.
The bar leans hard into agave, and it shows. You’ve got your classics. Margarita. Mezcal Negroni. Michelada with a punchy petroleo mix that wakes everything up.

And just when you think you’re done, dessert shows up. The Tres Leches leans into the classics with a soft sponge soaked in three milks, topped with thick meringue, pineapple, and a drizzle of salted caramel. Then there’s the Flan, rich with cajeta and balanced by bright fruit, fresh mint, and a cooling grapefruit granita that keeps things from going too heavy.

Casa MX isn’t just doing Mexican cuisine. It’s creating a space where you can drop in for brunch, linger over drinks, come back for dinner, and feel just as comfortable each time. No stiffness. Just really good food, thoughtful design, and a vibe that invites you to stay a little longer than planned.
