Bar at 1306 (thirteen o’ six) opens with delicious cocktails by C Virginia King!

With Miami growing at a faster and faster pace, bars and restaurants are springing up all over town. While most bars are opening in the same, common locations, the bar at 1306 has gone out of it’s way to make a name for itself in a location which seems like it’s the exit of downtown and the entrance of Wynwood (our geography may be a bit off).  What looks like an old restaurant supply warehouse district, Aramis Lorie and Brad Knoefler (formerly operator/owners of Grand Central), tapped into C Virginia King (Broken Shaker alumni) to create a cocktail menu where you can enjoy a bar unlike any other.

As you drive down the street towards 1306, the property sits between one and two story buildings with no other big buildings in sight besides downtown a couple blocks away.  What seems like an area pulled out of 80’s Miami, sits a comfortable bar with dark accents and a welcoming vibe.

“We also consider it to have one of the best music selections of any bar in Miami.”

Virginia has created a cocktail menu that is vermouth and mezcal forward meant to compliment the aperitivos that are served during the happiest of hours which include pickled vegetables, cheese, nuts, chips and more. The aperitivo menu is available throughout the night and offered complimentary during happy hour from 5pm-8pm.

At the moment, Virginia currently resides in Guatemala where she is principal bartender at Café No Sé, a small bar that serves rare mezcals.  She also does brand work with Illegal Mezcal.

Here are our cocktail recommendations:

Bitter Fruit
Gin, Campari, Sweet Vermouth, Grapefruit, Topped with Mionetto Prosecco

Spirited Miami:  A beautiful bitter and citrusy cocktail meant to open up the appetite to enjoy the aperitivos during happy hour or a night out in the town.

BITTERFRUIT

Diplomat
Blend of Vermouths, Maraschino Liqueur, Orange Bitter

Spirited Miami:  A light sessionable cocktail with low ABV.  A great starter cocktail or a cocktail to sip on throughout the evening.  The maraschino liqueur balances the vermouth flavors with light sweetness.

Daisy De Lolita
Ilegal Reposado Mezcal, Yellow Chartreuse, Lime and Mint

Spirited Miami:  Out of the whole list, this one of that really stood out.  The citrus is perfectly balanced by the smoky mezcal and is not overtaken with the hint of Chartreuse which gives it a mysterious herbaceous aroma and taste.

DAISY

Grapes of Wrath
Vodka, Cocchi Americano, Lemon and fresh green grapes

Spirited Miami:  We feel grapes are underutilized in cocktails, love to see it in this one. They are not completely muddled in the cocktail but squeezed enough to release some juice.  With the vodka and Cocchi, they’re best friends.

GRAPES

If you’re looking for a beautiful bar, with a great vibe, awesome music and away from all the chaos this is your urban refuge.  We love what they’re doing here.

Next to the bar there is also an event space that will host special events throughout the year.  We are looking forward to seeing this bar evolve.
