Over the weekend, we hosted our annual bourbon month meal at 27 Restaurant. But unlike previous years, this year’s event was during our favorite meal of the week — brunch.
The sold-out event brought out new and familiar faces to the restaurant for the four-course brunch with Jim Beam® bourbon cocktail pairings that the bar made special just for the event. Starting off the brunch were Spicy Cajun Croquettes, that definitely helped many soak up the night before’s antics. The croquetas were paired with a Sunday Morning Smash made with bourbon, a hint of Fernet, fresh mint, Florida citrus and Strawberry.
Next up, was a Frisée Salad filled with blue cheese and calabaza and topped with a dried cherry vinaigrette, which was paired with a Spritzy Spritz made with bourbon, Dolin Blanc infused with apples and ginger, Denepy de Alpes and lemon bitter soda.
For the main course, a Southern inspired take on the classic Eggs Benedict made with smoked brisket on top of a jalapeño cornbread finished with hollandaise sauce. Of course this was paired with a Southern classic cocktail, the Old Fashioned, but this version had a South Florida twist made with bourbon, Ocala smoked honey, grapefruit bitters and orange bitters.
Finally, the “dessert” was the perennial breakfast favorite, Buckwheat Pancakes, topped naturally with bourbon maple syrup along with nectarine jam and pecans. And to help everyone wake up after their meal it was paired with a Colada Chico made with bourbon infused Cafe Bustelo, PX Sherry, St. George Coffee Liqueor and served in a colada cup.
The brunch was a great time had for all and it was a delicious way to celebrate our favorite month of the year.
