A decade in business is a practical lifetime for a restaurant, and as Michael’s Genuine Food & Drink is approaching its 10th year it decided gives its now legendary menu an entire revamp.
Leading the new menu charge is its new chef de cuisine, Saul Ramos, along with the restaurant’s owner and chef Michael Schwartz.
The new Dinner menu begins in a familiar place with eight Snacks, with zesty newcomers like Shrimp Toast “Banh Mi”, and Short Rib Croquettes with smoked paprika aioli, but don’t worry, classics like the Deviled Eggs, Potato Chips and Hominy still stayed put.
A new section dedicated solely to Veggies included dishes like Wood Oven Roasted Eggplant with chickpeas, preserved meyer lemon, tahini, cilantro served with freshly made, piping hot pita from the hearth; Parsnip & Onion Gratin with cave-aged gruyère and black truffle; Stracciatella with heirloom tomatoes, basil, extra-virgin olive oil, sea salt; Fennel & Celery Root Salad with mint, arugula, almonds and pecorino and Carrot Coconut Soup with toasted coconut and peanuts were all favorites.
Heartier dishes can be found in the new Meat and Fish sections like Posole Rojo with pork belly & fried egg; Grilled Skirt Steak with radish, salsa verde, grilled lime; Pan Roasted Snapper with clams, bacon, green onion, green sauce, all paired perfectly with a side of a new pasta, the Calabaza Agnolotti with house smoked bacon, cipollini, piave vecchio, thyme.
Finishing the dinner on a sweet note was a plethora of new Desserts including a Rosemary Pine Nut Tarte with poached pears and crème fraîche; Apple Fritters with toasted walnut ice cream & crema and the table favorite Chocolate Budino with syrup soaked toasted brioche, salty caramel sauce, toasted brioche, crema.
