Ghee Indian Kitchen Wows With Fresh Flavors and Authentic Cuisine

Arguably Miami’s most anticipated restaurant opening of the year has finally open its doors. Ghee Indian Kitchen — the brainchild of former Michael’s Genuine Food & Drink chef de cuisine Niven Patel— debuted in Downtown Dadeland earlier this month and we got a first taste.

The expansive menu comes with a $55 tasting menu option that is a steal for the amount of food and flavors you’ll get to experience. The meal began with a bevy of small plates like the Backyard Pakora, which is a fried squash with taro leaf and sweet onion, the Dhokla with steamed semolina cakes and pickled peppers, the Pani Puri that consisted of small spheres filled with beets and beans and topped with a green apple, tamarind and mint sauce and the Idli, consisting of a rice ball swimming in a hearty lentil soup. As for veggies, we tried the Green Millet — which Ghee is one of the few places serving it in the country — topped with cilantro and the Charred Okra with tomato and black mustard.

Moving on to the larger dishes, the grilled Local Wahoo with a distinct smokey flavor was certainly a star dish, made with coconut and curry leaf it had the right amount of spice and freshness to counteract the smokiness. Another star was the Vadouvan Lamb Chop with charred kale, pistachios and yogurt dressing, which is perfect to soak up by the house-made Naan filled with cheese or topped with garlic, even though we suggest ordering both.

Desserts are certainly not an afterthought at Ghee, either.  The Sticky Date Cake made with jaggery coffee and ginger ice cream is hard not to gobble up in one swoop, while the Toasted Coconut Gulab Jamun with grilled peaches and pistachios and a light way to end the meal.

Don’t miss out on this soon-to-be Kendall staple, but in the meantime check out the delicious pictures below.
