Federal Donuts Brings Made-To-Order Donuts and Fried Chicken to Wynwood

Donut mania has finally come to Miami. Case in point: Federal Donuts, the wildly popular donut and Korean-style fried chicken restaurant created by James Beard award-winning chef Michael Solomonov, officially opens its doors today in the heart of Wynwood, making it the first location outside of its homebase of Philadelphia. The menu is short, sweet, and tasty and we got a first look.

Doughnuts are split into two categories, hot fresh and fancy. The hot fresh are made-to-order by a “donut robot” and tossed in your choice of sugar including Strawberry Lavender, Cinnamon Brown Sugar or Cookies ’n Cream.

The fancy donuts are bit more elaborate, however still made on site every day. Flavors will rotate several times a year but right now options include Strawberry Shortcake, Lemon Meringue, Black & White, Chocolate Eclair and our two favorites – the Blueberry Mascarpone and the perfect for Miami donut, the Guava Poppy.

If you’re in the mood for something more savory, the shop also serves a variety of Korean style chicken offered in naked, wet or tossed in a dry seasoning. Ordering it naked is always a delicious option or opt for the Honey Ginger Glaze, Chili Garlic or Sweet Soy. As for dry options, the options those include Za’atar, Buttermilk Ranch and Coconut Curry.

Of course, you can’t forget the Fried Chicken Sandwich — one of the restaurant’s most popular dishes — which is made with a double-fried boneless chicken breast and topped with buttermilk ranch seasoning, spicy rooster sauce, american cheese, dill pickles and nestled inside a Martin’s potato roll. And bonus points: the chicken sandwich comes with a honey glazed donut on the side.
